Alexander Stubb on Friday expressed profound shock at the death of Norwegian King Harald V.
”I am saddened to hear of the passing of His Majesty King Harald V of Norway. His family and the people of Norway have my deepest condolences,” Stubb wrote in a post on his social media platform X.
He also said that King Harald V will be remembered for his long-standing and devoted service as Head of State, his ability to unite Norwegians from all walks of life, and his steadfast commitment to maintaining hope and confidence in the future through all times.
The Royal House of Norway said on Friday that King of Norway Harald V died at the age of 89.
Harald was admitted to the hospital on Aug. 17. The Royal House previously said he had received cortisone treatment for hemolytic anemia in recent weeks, which caused fluid accumulation. During his hospitalization, he was also treated with antibiotics for a bacterial infection in his blood.
Born on Feb. 21, 1937, Harald ascended to the throne on Jan. 17, 1991, following the death of his father, King Olav V. He had been hospitalized several times in recent years and received a permanent pacemaker in 2024.
