Diplomacy possible if US understands pressure does not work: Iran FM 1

Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated on Friday that diplomatic relations with the United States can be restored if Washington acknowledges that coercive measures are ineffective against Tehran, according to Xinhua.

The comments were posted on X by Araghchi, referencing his meeting on Thursday in Tehran with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, where the two officials engaged in ”creative discussions.”

”Putting diplomacy back on track isn’t impossible. It hinges on U.S. understanding of one simple fact: pressure doesn’t work,” Araghchi wrote.

He urged the United States to establish trust, communicate with respect, recognize Iran’s rights, and its commitments to the country.

On June 18, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at ending the regional war. Under this agreement, both sides were scheduled to conduct negotiations within a 60-day period, concluding on August 17, to finalize an agreement. However, the outcome of these talks remains uncertain following an escalation between the two nations last month.

Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump announced ”the most crushing economic operation ever taken” against any nation providing support to Iran.

”This will be Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale,” he declared, describing the initiative as ”an ECONOMIC D-DAY.”
